 SEO Techniques

1. Location and Frequency: The page title should contain relevant search terms and the most important keywords. These search terms should also be present in the first paragraph of the page. The frequency (no. of times the search term appears on the web page) will also determine the ranking of that page. But over use of a search term in a web page can cause its exclusion from the search engine.

2. Meta description: Meta description is important to a certain extent but it shouldn't be over done.

3. Meta keywords: Google does not consider meta keywords but other search engines like Inktomi consider them to a certain extent. If they are already present on a web page it's worth keeping them, but not worth the trouble of developing new keywords. There should never be more than 25 Meta Keywords on any given page.

4. Content: Most search engines give good rankings to those sites with good content. The content should be in text and not graphics. The text should be at least 100 words per page and should contain the relevant keywords in good frequency.

5. Link Popularity: Search Engines give ranking boosts to those sites that have links from quality and related sites. Google ranks the benefit of a site based on the number of back links (i.e. the no. of pages pointing to the site). This is one of the most important requirements for getting a good ranking in Google. These back links should come from other high-ranking pages for that keyword.

6. Navigation: Navigation for the website should be in text and not in images as Search Spiders cannot read information in an image unless there is an 'Alt' tag present.

7. Links to competitors: Having a page with links to the competitors will help boost your Search Engine rankings. This is because your Links page will become an important resource to end-users and many people will link to it. This also means that, whenever someone searches for a competitors website or product, your site will be among the top few listed. This also creates trust in the end user's mind as this shows that you are not afraid of the competition.

8. The Index Page: Search Spiders sometimes index only the INDEX pages. So make sure your most important pages are saved as your Index pages.
